The Department of Veterans Affairs scandal that has Secretary Eric Shinseki on the hot seat is flooding into Senate races across the country. As many as seven Democratic Senators up for reelection this year are calling for Secretary Shinseki to resign. Capitol Hill sources tell me, with the Senate in recess and these Senators working (and campaigning) in their home states, the Democratic political calculus is to call for Shinseki’s resignation as a measure of separating oneself from President Obama, then claiming pull with the President when/if Shinseki resigns/is fired.
